2001 M Street

In 2016, architecture firm Lehman Smith McLeish designed the renovation of this sprawling, 285,000 square foot, Class A office space located in the heart of Washington D.C. As part of the renovation, Sentech was engaged to develop a structural glass fin solution for the building’s 2-story lobby. The ensuing design utilized Sentech’s VetraFin G-Series System– an elegant glass fin façade system that spans freely from head to sill using full height glass fins and façade panels, and with no exposed fittings. Elegant and welcoming to visitors, this glass fin wall measures 21-feet tall by 54-feet foot wide. It also features oversized, low-iron jumbo glass panels that are supported along the vertical edges. The stresses on the glass were kept extremely low by transferring the stresses from from fin to fin, even with a floating header application as part of the façade’s entrance system. This floor-to-ceiling, single span glass application opens to the building’s newly renovated lobby, and as a result, allows natural light to flood the entrance and maximize transparency- all while using the glass as structure.
